Planning on painting your bedroom? First you need to know the rules. Your bedroom is your private, personal retreat where you can run from the world and be yourself. The standard rule is that color schemes for this space should create a warm relaxing mood. However, choosing your favorite color and defining who you really are is the more important thing to consider. After all your room is also the part of the house that is least visited by other people. One can always be at liberty to experiment on their creativeness about their wall color or decoration.

So you’ve already decided to use the non traditional room paint colors. But you can’t just go to the hardware store and get an electric blue or a hot pink colored paint. Tim Lee provides us with three useful tips in choosing the color for our room.

1. The color family rule

Should you wish to paint your room red, you should consider having a decoration inside your room that’s also in the shade or red. The monochromatic schemes are the simpler type and is most commonly used by people. For that ‘red’ room, you can look for the similar shade for your lamp or bed sheet, floor mat, whatsoever.

2. The next door neighbor rule

This rule is in accordance to the color wheel. The colors next to your color of choice in the color wheel should provide a pleasing combination. For your new red room, then the colors orange and violet should do well. Ergo if it’s blue, then the colors green and violet as a combination should be pleasing to the eye as well.

3. The Yin and Yang rule

Opposites are definitely attractive to the eye and can prove to create a harmonious environment. The most common example of this is the basic black and white. But contrasts such as green and yellow or blue and yellow looks interesting. Red, white and black exudes an artistic appeal.
