Nielsen-Wilson Design was honored with three awards in the 10th Annual Interior Design Awards, presented by the American Society of Interior Designers Colorado Chapter. Nielsen-Wilson’s designs were selected from a record number of entries to take top prize in three of 27 categories, the most of any design group this year.

In the category Primary Residence over 5,000 Square Feet, Nielsen-Wilson took top honors for the open yet intimate design of a Monument, Colo. home with expansive Rocky Mountain views. Inspired by nature, the firm combined natural tones, original art and well-defined spaces to balance the home with its grand surroundings.
Nielsen-Wilson won the Design Elements category for two features in a Monument, Colo. home. Four horizontal wooden bars cross the home’s main entry, evoking strength and masculinity. The four bars are repeated as troughs that catch and redistribute water in an entryway fountain.
Finally, for the category of Un-Built, Non-Commissioned Work, Nielsen-Wilson’s plans for a 30-year-old Vail Valley building lobby and mezzanine were recognized. The building had to be redesigned rather than rebuilt, so Nielsen-Wilson re-imagined the space to create a 50-foot fountain that turned the building’s open mezzanine into a dramatic design feature.

The American Society of Interior Designers holds the Interior Design Awards annually to recognize the most outstanding design projects by Colorado firms. Entries are judged on the design process and how well the result reflects the space’s intent. This year’s award submittals were juried in San Francisco, CA.

An unrivalled leader in glass production, with an internationally acknowledged know-how in acid-etched processing and an ever-evolving offer in technological and design-oriented solutions, OmniDecor is presenting a new line of patterns.

At Fiera Architektonika – Lingotto in Turin, June 30–July 3 – the DecorFlouDesign collection confirms once more its commitment to innovative development and to the cooperation with the most creative designers in the field, with the launch of a new line of patterns designed by Defne Koz.

With her training in Ettore Sottsass’ studio and a cosmopolitan background steeped in both the ancient and the contemporary of Turkish, Italian and American culture, Defne Koz has acquired specific skills in the field of glass design. From Murano glass to crystals, from laser-cut sheets to prints, she has experienced first-hand the material’s wide potential. Her skills have now been brought to ideal fruition in her project for OmniDecor.

In line with the company’s tradition of state-of-the-art R&D and aesthetics, the patterns by Defne Koz express to the fullest the unique versatility and architectural essentiality of glass sheets. Architecture played a major role in inspiring Defne Koz’s project for OmniDecor. The environment of light and shadow, movement and transparency, brings DecorFlou glass to the fore in eliciting the dynamics of both the visual and tactile effects of Defne Koz’s patterns. Her research has focused on patterns adding a third dimension of depth to a bi-dimensional platform, as well as evoking a feeling of “softness” from a hard material, as further proof of the flexible and wide-ranging expressive potential of glass.

Texture, geometry, the dynamics of clear versus opaque: everything conspires to bring to life an architectural element that is the fertile focus of Defne Koz’s designing passion, with the creation of patterns specifically conceived for different processes and surfaces. An alternation of surfacing and vanishing perceptions constantly renewed by the slightest change in surroundings.

Slipcovers can create a dramatic fashion statement. Rather than spending an extensive amount for new seats, reupholstering or custom slipcovers; ready made slipcovers offer consumers a reasonably priced solution for an immediate and trendy furnishing cover up.

For homeowners searching to make their home stand out from the pack, a bathroom overhaul is at all times tops on the list. However, according to Remodeling Magazine, the average cost of a mid-scale bathroom remodel is around a whooping $16,000 — a high value to pay amidst today’s slowing economy and housing market. So, how can homeowners who are on a budget find that well run look for less?
Knowing of what’s in and what’s out in bathroom design is important for homeowners settling on just where to splurge their renovation dollars. There are four major key areas to look for; the lighting, hardware, mirror, and paint. Each one can be easily and inexpensively updated to create a new, up to date impression for the bathroom.
Lighting.Time to end those, bare-bulbed lighting that emits a raucous radiance. Consider fixtures that append attractiveness and supple illumination with shades or sconces. They can dash on top of your mirror or edge it on both sides. And keep in mind, these highlight your room’s utmost main point so be certain to decide on a style that is right for you that put together a statement in an area.
Hardware. Incompatible and mismatched hardware leaves an awkward feel in any room. Brass finishes also add to a dated look. Prefer brushed nickel, pewter, antique or oil-rubbed bronze finishes that synchronize with the lighting and fixtures. These nippy fixes draw the room mutually with solitary contemporary, organized look.

Bathroom Mirror. Unframed mirrors are fixation of the times of yore. Frames put the last touches on the mirror and furnish a bathroom a finished, modernized look. There are several sites that offer different frame styles to choose from and have the frame custom cut to fit a mirror. An excellent tip for selecting a frame is to consider about what you’d frame a piece of artwork in for the room. The mirror is the central point in every bathroom and can make a real statement with the precise frame.
Paint is in no way out. It is a tested and true way to compose an immense blow with modest price. Colors do vary despite the fact - you would like to reside away from mauves and pinks. Build a spa-like setting with paints in beige and pale tones. Some well-liked colors are chocolate, aqua, olive, and gold. When choosing color, bear in mind that the more contrast, the more modern it would appear.

Having an updated bath does not always require a total renovation. Some strategic and money-spinning changes can go a long way to furnish you the look and design that you wish for.

Buying real and textured surface can be very tight in your budget. Since paint is most times more economical then the real thing, why not add a little trick to your place to deceive your viewer’s eyes with something that looks real. What you see isn’t always what you get. This is what Tromp L’Oeil made of. It
achieves the sense of being three dimensional with a technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion. Their placement and realistic preciseness is just amazing. Surprises like these are what make interior design so much fun and fascinating.
From the french word Trompe L’Oeil, pronounced “trum ploy” its meaning translates literally “to trick the eye” or “to fool the eye”.
Inexpensive, simpler furnishings, along with interiors and exteriors of buildings can be made to look
more expensive using techniques in wood graining (faux bois )and marbling (faux marbre). A three dimensional effect can be given to flat walls and ceilings. With the use of shading, shadowing and viewpoint skills trompe l’oeil artists and muralists can use their flairs to craft windows, doors and other openings like break aways, and rips and tears to open a room and give it depth.

I love throw pillows and cushions or should I say I just love pillows. Besides being an ornamental piece, or sometimes used as seats, surrounded by them gives a cozy sensation as if you’re hugging someone else. I’ve been doing my hunt for cool and unique styles as I gazed on Anne Kyyrö Quinn’s project.
Some of her designs I find astonishing are the cushions that correspond to nature. Women do love flowers, thus they also have leaves and they are more beautiful when they bloom. Being propelled by the organic rejuvenation of springtime AKQ Design innovated these stylish cushions – Boom, Leaf, and Flower.
Bloom - enthused by the subtle petals of a freshly bloomed flower;it has the unique Anne Kyyrö Quinn mark of a concrete three-dimensional design. The design takes the use of high quality felt cushions to another level of subtle sophistication.

Leaf - inspired by the spotted illumination on the forest ground when flittered through the leaf awning of soaring trees. The sensation is maneuvered in such a manner as to provide the feeling of vibrant movement of the lifeless item as one’s sight gazes over it.

Flower – as what the name suggested is inspired from conceptual figure of a flower that has been given existence by means of remarkable skill in order to portray it in this vastly stylized sculptural appearance.
