Painting Your Room

Posted by Portia on 18th August 2008

Planning on painting your bedroom? First you need to know the rules. Your bedroom is your private, personal retreat where you can run from the world and be yourself. The standard rule is that color schemes for this space should create a warm relaxing mood. However, choosing your favorite color and defining who you really are is the more important thing to consider. After all your room is also the part of the house that is least visited by other people. One can always be at liberty to experiment on their creativeness about their wall color or decoration.

So you’ve already decided to use the non traditional room paint colors. But you can’t just go to the hardware store and get an electric blue or a hot pink colored paint. Tim Lee provides us with three useful tips in choosing the color for our room.

1. The color family rule

Should you wish to paint your room red, you should consider having a decoration inside your room that’s also in the shade or red. The monochromatic schemes are the simpler type and is most commonly used by people. For that ‘red’ room, you can look for the similar shade for your lamp or bed sheet, floor mat, whatsoever.

2. The next door neighbor rule

This rule is in accordance to the color wheel. The colors next to your color of choice in the color wheel should provide a pleasing combination. For your new red room, then the colors orange and violet should do well. Ergo if it’s blue, then the colors green and violet as a combination should be pleasing to the eye as well.

3. The Yin and Yang rule

Opposites are definitely attractive to the eye and can prove to create a harmonious environment. The most common example of this is the basic black and white. But contrasts such as green and yellow or blue and yellow looks interesting. Red, white and black exudes an artistic appeal.

The Right Feng Shui Bedroom

Bring romance chi into the bedroom
Be certain to add romantic imagery in these two key places in the bedroom: the wall opposite the foot of the bed (where you naturally look when lying in bed), and whatever area of the room you first see when you enter. Beautiful, romantic artwork is always good, as are fresh or silk flowers and anything in pairs (such as birds, cherubs, candles, or decorative pillows). A round mirror is also good for the bedroom, as the shape signifies completion and unity. Look around your home for whatever says “romance” to you, and find a good spot for it in your bedroom.

Move your bed
If one side of your bed is against the wall, the person who sleeps on that side may feel confined or dis empowered in the relationship. If possible, place the bed so there is equal space on either side, so you and your partner can find equal enjoyment in the relationship. The best position of the bed will be on the side opposite from the door, but not directly in line with it. If you’re unable to see the bedroom door from the bed, place a mirror to see the views from the door.

Create a Place for your Young Ones from Casakids

Posted by janette on 4th July 2008

Time will come for your kids to be in their own room and quit sleeping between you and your significant other sharing a single bed. Parents do have some harsh time asking their kids to move on their own room leaving you a question to how to make things happen.

Kids will always be playful not to mention those clutters they will create after playing. Kids are naturally messy but when their rooms are equipped with stylish and functional fixtures it’ll surely make your parenting easier.

I find myself smiling in front of my computer staring at the colorful and cute styles of Casakids. They offer different styles found in their Ola Collection, Bebe Collection and the Loft Beds.

The three Ola! Pieces include an armoir, a dresser with a removable changing table top, and a crib that is designed to grow with a child from birth through adolescence. It is defined by its rounded corners and smooth edges, which give the pieces an attractive organic suppleness.

Bebe collection has a modern, minimalist look that works well in any type of room. It’s curved corners and arched rails project a friendly softness both to the eye and to the touch.

Loft beds are in demand, mostly by urban residents who always need more storage for the small kid’s room. The modular loft beds incorporate a good amount of storage for clothes and toys. Rails and ladder are extra strong and we make ladders and also steps. Loft beds are recommended for ages 6 and up.

  • You can choose stationery panels that stay put or functional draperies that you open and close. Wood poles are a better choice if you are going to operate your draperies.
  • If you are tentative, select a fabric and style that you feel will serve you for years to come. You can easily change your wall color and accessories but furniture and draperies are usually the substantial investments.
  • Draperies do not have to be mounted directly over a window. If you want the ceiling to seem higher, mount the draperies higher on the wall.
  • Draperies can serve a number of purposes: beauty, privacy and light control are usually the three most important. Remember that blinds and shades can be used along with the draperies to cover all your bases.
  • Don’t scrimp - Figure the width of the area you want to cover and then choose panels that are 2-3xhigh drama draperyas wide. You want them to look luxurious and full, not pulled taught.
  • Always choose a lined drapery (unless you are doing sheers). The lining protects the drapery from being damaged from heat and sunlight. The drapery will also hold its shape better over time.

Clutter can be a Solution to Create a More Lived-in Look in Bedrooms

Posted by janette on 7th June 2008

Most of the time, the master bedrooms in many new homes are so outsized that they can look spare and unreceptive even when furnished with some huge items. A properly executed cluttered look will create a more lived-in look to your bedroom but not messy at all.

You can make the corner of a room attractive when cluttered up with style. When you add some furniture, make it appoint that all these pieces have their functional role in the room. You can put a chair or an ottoman to fill up the corners of a room or a velvet-tufted chaise lounge to add color and pattern that help soften the space. You can also use some small tables for books, magazines and framed photographs to scattered around the room. A bookcase can be added as well, along with a bench at the foot of the bed where a bedspread could be placed. Other furniture such as writing desk and chair can be situated perpendicular to a wall or used in place of a night table. Don’t forget to define a seating group with an area rug. And then there are flowers, plants and drapery that will surely help make even an extra-large bedroom appear pleasantly cluttered.

Today the designs of traditionally styled rooms are being interpreted with more freedom than in the past decades. We now see colors, patterns and furniture that have been once considered “incorrect” for the look of a particular era.

Some historians of interior design point out that styles now associated with specific periods were never as parochial as we have come to believe. Domestic interiors always have been regarded as places of sanctuary and refuge. Rather than abiding to some standards, today decorating and designing are typically styled according to personal taste and choices.
